Android is soon going to be a locked down OS, restricting you on the way that you get apps. Mostly, an open source app that's hosted on GitHub won't have a release for Google Play, which, it's fine until September 2026 (This year as I'm writing this). Why? Google has decided that for "security reasons", the apps that you download from 3rd party app stores are a massive cyberatack entrance, as they believe your device can be hacked. This is not true.
There's a whole commutity trying to fight back the rights of consumers. It's the Keep Android Open comunity which you can visit at https://keepandroidopen.org. They made an open-letter explaining to Google how important was to keep Android open.
